Patient care

General:

  • Free mobilization

Puncture site:

  • Leave pressure bandage in place for at least 4 hours

  • Advise the patient not to weight bear on his right hand (standing up, sitting down etc.).

  • If necessary, have arm in supportive sling.

  • Apply small plaster after removal of pressure bandage.


Instructions at discharge:

  • Check for radial artery pulsation.

  • In case of absence of pulsation:

  • • inform patient of benign character of this complication.

    • reexamine after 1 month.

  • Advise the patient not to weight bear on his right hand (standing up, sitting down etc.).

  • No heavy work with right hand for 24 hours.

  • Examination for radial artery patency and/or pseudo aneurysm formation at the outpatient clinic.
